“Ever since the railroad made it accessible to the average working person, Absecon Island–or Atlantic City, as it came to be known– was “The World’s Playground,” a kingdom of dreams built on sand, a place where, for a reasonable sum of money, any man, woman, or child could be treated like visiting royalty. With luxury hotels, theatres, and restaurants lining the famous Boardwalk, there was nothing the city didn’t offer– legal and illegal. Food, drink, and entertainment of all kind, from highbrow to low. If you couldn’t find it on the Boardwalk (or on one of it’s many side streets), it didn’t exist. ” –Terrence Winter, Emmy Award Winning writer of The Sopranos and Executive Producer of HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, the Forword of  Boardwalk Empire by Nelson Johnson.

What make this description perfect is, it’s as true today as it was nearly 150-years ago. That is not to say Atlantic City hasn’t changed. It most certanly has but in many ways it remains the same.
